“I was attending the officer’s course in Pretoria at the time, having come up from Durban. It was during a political congress meeting that we heard the then Prime Minister speak over the radio, declaring that the Police would, if necessary, conduct a hot pursuit into Zambia. The announcement stirred considerable excitement among us. We felt the pulse of the times — bold, uncertain, and charged with significance. Truly, we were living in eventful days.”
